Screen Flickering in Progressive Mode

Issue #195 invalid

Original [issue 195](https://code.google.com/p/genplus-gx/issues/detail?id=195) created by bennayboy on 2011-11-12T15:00:45.000Z:

Every time I enter/exit the menu,it will stretch around and flicker in then out of black screen which I find annoying and scary.

I hope that you can make it so that progressive mode stays loaded when entering/exiting the menu, eliminating the distorting black flicker screen glitch.

I don't get what is your issue or what you want: progressive mode is already automatically selected in menu when the emulator is started if your Wii system menu mode is set to progressive (480p) and you are using the component cable.

What I mean is that I use progressive mode because I have the component cable and upon using it,the screen has been temporarily glitching between entering and exiting the menu instead of being a still image the entire time like without progressive (480i=standard composite).

As i said, set your default video mode in wii system menu to progressive and the emulator should use that mode for menu itself. If it doesn't, then there is something wrong with the default (preferred) mode returned by libogc.

If you mean the emulator menu are running fine in progressive mode and you got flicker when running game in original and interlaced video modes, there is nothing i can do about it, it's video output signal switching, what do you expect ? Same happen when forcing games to run in 50 hz mode, with the emu always being 60hz.

Btw, you can set render mode to PROGRESSIVE in genesis plus gx video settings and it should not switch modes. I didn't had an hdtv and component cable to test it so far but it should work as expected. But again, as soon as video signal type is switching, you will get brief screen mess-up, this is unavoidable.

Sorry for the trouble,it is probably cuz I have a native 60hz HDTV with a progressive wire on my wii.

I think using a freeze image or skip frames command when entering the menu would alternately fix this annoying bug.

The reason it is a problem in the first place is because I play in a darkened room since I could not see hardly anything playing Metroid Prime 1 (Wii 3-pack CE w/book).

That's NOT a bug, that's what happen when switching from a video mode (used by emulator) to another one (used in menu).

Menu is using 480i by default or 480p if Component cable is detected AND if Wii System Menu is set to progressive.

Emulator is using whatever mode you have specified in Video Options: ORIGINAL (240p, generally not supported through component cable), INTERLACED (480i) or PROGRESSIVE (480p, only available when component cable is detected).

There is nothing more I can do if you don't want to set the same mode on both sides, I already wait a few frames for the change to be applied and a snapshot of the game as a still image. There will always be some glitch when switching mode.

Also, progressive output is not working on my Wii so I can't test anything, only know how this behaves when switching from non-interlaced to interlaced and it's fine.

    Sorry about all of this.

For some reason,my Wii was set back to 480i so I set it back to 480p and now menu access is seamless and perfect!

Again sorry for all the trouble, you can feel free to remove this issue now.
