Please define "for a while" and "sporadically" more precisely because, again, I cannot reproduce that issue.

Anyway, i'm pretty sure this can happen on real hardware too sometimes when catching many rings or having multiple sfx playing, isn't it the same "issue" you were already reporting here (issue \#60) ? http://code.google.com/p/genplus-gx/issues/detail?id=60&can=1

What is sure is that 1) nothing changed in regard to sound emulation since the last versions 2) the ring sound does not do anything special that would eventually require any more accurate chip emulation and 3) that can't be related to the other kind of issue recently reported (and which might have encouraged you reporting back your own old issue maybe ?) since the music would be scratchy as well, not only sound effect...

It's definitely not supposed to happen, and it affects the audio in general. I can't define "for a while" and "sporadically." It's just been happening a lot lately. This is not related to my issue \#60.

Lately ? That does not make any sense, i did not change anything recently, version is still the same and audio core did not change since 1 year. Could it be issued by something else than emulator ?

Well, your old issue definitively was also about scratchy rings in sonic 2. Anyway, now it's "audio in general" ? Sorry but it is too vague, I can't fix something I can barely define and more over I can't even reproduce, I played this game for an hour without noticing any scratchy sound or weirdness. Try putting a recording or video of when this is happening.

I just finished that damn game (god I hate some of these levels) and didn't notice anything wrong all along, not a single "scratch" or bug or sound skipping so what you might have experienced is not coming from the emulator, sorry.

Yes, it is coming from the emulator. I'll put up a recording since you won't believe me.

It's not that I don't believe you, it's just that I cannot fix something that does not happen for me. As I said, I played through the whole game without hearing any scratch. If you want me to fix an issue, you have to be more precise and give more details regarding how it can be reproduced or what exactly happens and when.

Also, what bothers me is that you started by saying there was a random issue with the ring sound specifically then, after I pointed out your old issue report, that it was "audio in general" (still trying to figure what it is supposed to mean exactly) and that it started to happen more often recently (compared to when ? as i said audio code did not change for a while and code is code, it does not evolve with time)
