Any way of adding this feature and that it does not matter what the rom extension is. So far, it only works on .bin and .32x roms.

No, fixing checksum is an useless option: it is not required unless you are using patched ROM files, in which case you could as well fix it yourself in the ROM header. Use verified ROM dumps and you won't have any problem, the emulator will run them all.
As for extensions, the emulator only check for .sms, .gg and .sg , which means that for genesis ROM files, ANY extension is already supported. If it does not load, it probably means the ROM is bad, find a better source. Please note that 32x is NOT emulated so loading a .32x file will not work, and 7z compressed files are NOT supported.
