Lunar II Stuttering Audio in Opening and in Cutscenes.

Issue #260 duplicate
Former user created an issue

I believe I briefly mentioned this elsewhere but I think this deserves it's own issue section.

In Lunar II: Eternal Blue during the opening (when you start the game and see the Working Designs logo and read the scrolling text) the audio does small stuttering practically every second. It does this in all animated cutscenes as well, along with the title screen.

I'm using model 1.0 BIOS and r706. However the issue has been present in all builds of Genesis Plus GX since it's Sega CD release.

I noticed this too, i think it's related to some PCM desync during long sequences (also happen in Snatcher) . It should disappear if you enter the emulator menu then exit back to game, or if you force vsync off, right ?

No, the problem still persists even after doing your recommendations. This might work with Snatcher, though I can't accurately say since I've played next to nothing of Snatcher on Genesis Plus GX.

No, for me, audio indeed started to glitch at this exact point during the Lunar 2 intro (when the scrolling text appears) but glitch disappeared as soon if i enter the emulator main menu then go back to game. I also noticed that if i made a savestate just before this point and load it, audio does not glitch at this point anymore but still after a while if i leave the intro running without entering the menu, which is why my first idea was some kind of buffer overrun or underrun issue. I am also pretty sure it did not glitched a single time if i play the whole intro with vsync off. But this was with an earlier version, i did not test this behavior with last svn.

I tried running 1.7.0 but the problem was still present even after doing all your steps. I even tried running it from SD as well but no luck.

This is weird because I remember when I first started the game it didn't glitch up. Maybe the way to get it to stop stuttering is a bit more random then what you might have thought originally?

I have this same issue with the Japanese version of Lunar II. If I am correct, I also remember having this issue using the same iso on picodrive for psp.

I have only one issue with this great port....the sound on LUNAR 2 us, it is not stuttering at all on mine...its too fast, it makes the voices sound like the chipmunks. I hope theres something im missing and its not a real issue with the port.

well, to be exact it is not a port, sega CD emulation was entirely written from scratch ;-)

Anyway, the issue with stuttering audio has since been fixed, it was due to a general sync issue, not specific to this game.

Music works fine and at correct speed for me so it's probably an issue with your settings or CD image files. How fast are we talking about, can you make recordings ? If there are wav files coming with the game .iso, check that they were recorded at the proper samplerate (emulator needs 44.1kHz which is the original samplerate).

You can also check if the issue is present in earlier versions (1.7.0, 1.7.1,...)
