Graphical Glitch in border area when borders are disabled

Issue #282 resolved
Former user created an issue

Original issue 282 created by nintygaming on 2012-10-13T18:45:07.000Z:

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Press Menu button on controller
2. Exit Menu
3. See graphics errors on bottom of screen (more noticeable in some games instead of others. For example, Lunar 1 is more noticeable than Sonic CD, but both are noticeable)

What version of the emulator are you using (official, SVN revision,...)?

r715

Please provide any additional information below (Emulator settings, Console
setting,...)

Basic default settings are used to the best of my knowledge.

Does not happen to me (obviously this kind of bug would have been easily noticed) and your description of "graphic errors" is not precise enough to guess what could cause this.

If you have been using the beta i uploaded in the other issue report, it would be wise to delete your config.ini file since it is not compatible with official release and could have corrupt some settings.

I'm not using borders. Try it without borders (I've never used borders because I don't like shrinking the picture)

Ok, i see it. It indeed only happens with borders disabled and with PAL games.
I know what is causing this, should be fixed soon.

I don't know if this helps, but I'm using NTSC games. And yes, without borders, it happens. Looks like it copies a small slice of the screen and displays it below in what would be the cutoff/overscan area.

Something that might be related to this: I'm not getting any top and bottom borders when in NTSC mode, in the latest compiled version.

The border option "All" is showing the same as "H only".

If it's not related, I'll open a new issue for it.

Did you deleted config.ini from beta as suggested ?

Yes, and it didn't help. Graphical glitch remains.

i was talking to iceknight ;-)

as said above, i know what is causing the bug you reported,
technically it´s due to part of the screen not being drawn that is not cleared when leaving the menu and therefore still shows part of the screenshot screen ( there is no "borders" displayed in menu)... this was caused by a tiny change i made to video rendering to remove something i thought was useless. guess i was wrong.

Sorry eke, it looks like my current TV is just cutting the top and bottom borders completely, even in widescreen mode (I can only see one line of the gargage that's been mentioned in this issue).

    UPDATE

    @ ekeeke

I just noticed that this problem does not occur in PROGRESSIVE mode with borders off. I just recently tested it on a HDTV in 480p and no issues. HOWEVER, once you exit the menu AFTER doing a save state, part of the menu remains on the left side of the screen (in 16:9 mode only). It does however go away if you re-enter the menu and then exit only.

How this will affect your newest r719 is not known to me, so that's why I bring it up.

    One more thing......

When you get the time, would you be willing to fix a few NEW issues with FCEU GX and SNES9X GX? I emailed Tantric but he said he closed the issues section of those emulators because he's no longer working on them.

The issues with these emulators are similar to the one I just pointed out with Genesis Plus, although slightly different. For example.......

.....when you set FCEU or SNES9X to "Filtered/Unfiltered" video mode, the horizontal size gets stretched. This CAN be corrected manually by the user going into video options and shrinking the horizontal size from 100% to 96% in 4:3 mode, and down to 89% in 16:9 correction mode, along with offsetting it to the left by 1%.

This problem did not exist in versions 4.2.5 and 3.2.5 and earlier.

And the other problem is with SNES9X. So far, I can see framerate issues with Yoshi's Island (for an example, go down the first green pipe in World 1-1 to see the issue very clearly) and sound stuttering infrequently with most all games. This did not occur with earlier versions prior to the new core I believe. I don't think the new core is the issue however, because the latest RetroArch doesn't have these issues with framerate for example. Unfortunately though, RetroArch does not have all the great features of the GX ports.

Anyway, I thought I would bring this up to you because I think you've worked on these 2 emulators before, and because Tantric has basically abandoned them.

it is very likely the same issue and got fixed as well, again that is part of screen that is heing rendered in menu but not during game

as for nintendo emulators, i have no interest neither time to work on them, already have plenty on my plate with this one and feel i'm giving enough on this.
