Madden 98 saving season

Issue #413 invalid

Using Retropie 2, version 3.2.1 Emulation Station

Realized after the first game I played that the W/L were not saved for any teams. I even simulated an entire season, appears games were played but when you go back to previous weeks, all scores show 00-00.

Stats seem to get updated though. Standings don't get updated at all. I went back and tried every other year of Madden (95,96,97) and they all save the seasons correctly. I tried all different kinds of file extensions for Madden 98, .bin, .gen and so on but still not working.

When you're in the Weekly Schedule, there should be a check box that you can select to pick that game to play, it's not there. You can still hit 'A' to select it and actually play that game.

Could you attach the .srm file that should have been created after you saved in-game and (likely, as I don't know how "Retropie" works) exited the emulator ?

I tried to simulate a season with the standalone version of Genesis Plus GX then with libretro port in Retroarch (1.0 version for win32) and both are saving / restoring everything correctly (stats, scores, standings, etc) after you exit then restart the game in emulator. Same for the boxes in weekly schedule screen, they can always be checked providing you are displaying the current week screen.

So it's definitively not an issue with the core but more likely a problem with the frontend you are using which is either corrupting the saved .srm file or not saving it correclty to disk on exit.

As for the ROM file, I have been using No-Intro version (CRC = E051EA62).

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Can you advise on what I can look into next to try and figure out what the issue is?

Where can I download the exact ROM you were using? I'd like to try that if possible.

As said earlier, try uploading the .srm file created by the emulator after exiting while in the middle of a season. I can try to have a quick look at it to see if there is something wrong with it that could explain the problems you are getting when reloading it.

As for the ROM, I don't think it's the issue unless you are using a hacked or patched one that somehow broke saving but you can found no-intro dumps pretty much anywhere on internet. I know planetemu website has them.

Hey.....wanted to apologize for wasting your time with this. I am new to configuring my Raspberry Pi (Retropie) and there is limited documentation online where certain key files are located in the latest version. I was under the impression that Retropie was using Genesis Plus GX to emulate the Genesis games but in fact it was using another emulator. Once I located the correct file and changed it to point to Genesis Plus GX, the game worked flawlessly.

Thanks again for all of your help and again, sorry to have wasted your time with this.
