Lunar: Eternal Blue intermittent lock ups/framerate dips

Issue #427 invalid
Former user created an issue

What are the steps to reproduce the problem?

Just boot up Lunar Eternal Blue.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The game shouldn't have these constant, intermittent freezes, it should be smooth. What it happens is precisely that, both the game and the sound stop every few seconds.

What version / port of the emulator are you using ?

Wii version, last commitment tried is f7197d4, from some days ago; although I've tried several commitments.

What emulator settings (system, video, audio,...) are you using ?

System: Console type Auto Console Region Auto VDP Mode Auto System clock Auto System boot Cart System Lockups ON 68k Adress Error ON Lock on OFF Cartridge Swap OFF

Display Progressive TV mode 60hz VSYNC Auto Bilinear Filter ON Deflickering Filter Auto Trap Filter OFF Gamma Correction 1.0 LCD GHOSTING OFF NTSC FILTER OFF GG Screen ORIGINAL Aspect Ratio 4:3 Screen Position 100, 100

Audio MS FM Audio AUTOR High Quality FM ON FM Resolution MAX FM volume 100 PSG Volume 1.50 PSG Noise boost ON Audio out stereo Filtering LOW PASS Low Pass Rate 60%

Most of them are default options, I hope I wrote all the important information.

Well, it's actually missing only important informations:

    • are you loading the game from USB or SD?
    • what IOS number is displayed in the window that appears when you select "exit" in the emulator?
    • when do the freez happens exactly?

Closing this since I can not reproduce it and is likely an hardware issue caused by USB drive (either it's too slow because it is limited to USB1 speed or it automatically puts itself in sleep mode which hangs CD emulation).

Sorry for not answering those questions before.

I use an SD card, 8 GB if that is important. I never used USB for these types of games, and it's the only Sega CD game that has this problem.

    The IOS is 58.

These small freezes appear the moment you boot up the game. There's nothing more to do. Load the game (Bin+Cue) and you can see and hear it from the beginning.

You mean it freezes during the BIOS intro? During Sega license screen with Sonic? I doubt that. Or maybe you mean the game intro with scrolling text? title screen? first playable game sequence? It's not quite clear.

Anyway, like I said, I cannot reproduce your issue, that game loads and runs perfectly here, no freeze, no stuttering, so I'm afraid there is nothing I can do about your issue as it's likely not an emulation bug

Try reformating your SD card or use another one, maybe it will help.

Also try with a different bios and/or different game image, it shouldn't have any effect but you never know. Yu can also post teh content of the CUE file here so I can check if there is nothing odd in it.

The Sega CD bios menu is fine, the animation and sound run smoothly, is when the game itself starts when the stuttering begins. Other games run just fine.

I tried several images and I had this problem with them all, but I haven't tried different BIOS versions. Which one do you use? I think the one I have right now is the 2.00 (US version, as the game is from that region).

I'll also try a different SD card, even if everything else in it works without problems.

    Sorry for all the inconvenience.
