C-Stick (GCN) / Right Analog Stick (Classic Controller) support for mapping buttons

Issue #436 wontfix
niuus created an issue

When using the GameCube Controller in conjunction with a virtual 6 Buttons pad, i map MODE to the Z button. The problem is, it also asks for a MENU button (which is already mapped by default to C-Stick Right), so i would need to overlap any other key, since the other directions are not available for use.

If the directional buttons are also allowed to be mapped to the right stick and the same input to be shared between 2 players in the Options menu, it would enable Smash TV to be played with the same controller (you need two on the original hardware), and the full range of shooting would be possible, as in the arcade or SNES version. Just a thought.

I noticed that you can input a combination of buttons (as opposed to only one) for the MENU bind. Since C-sticking right is all I need to access the menu, when it asks me to bind for MENU, I just smash as many buttons at once as possible and D-pad up-right. This way I don't accidentally activate the menu unless I accidentally C-stick right. :)

Not going to happen, sorry. As mentioned above, you can map a buttons combo to the MENU key (just keep buttons held then release them all) so it's a non-issue. Configurable mapping of directional buttons as well as allowing the same controller to be shared between 2 players is too much work for very little benefits.

The remappable C-Stick was just a suggestion, but it doesn't matter if it does not happen. The MENU button issue is probably aimed to people with Gamecube controllers without C-Stick (broken stick, arcade pad, hori, etc.), but it definitely could be improved if at least the window indicated that you can use a button-combo-press, since i've been using this emulator for many years and never knew about such a workaround.

Congrats for the CHD addition BTW, it's a really useful feature.

Just checked the code when adding WiiU gamepad support and it says "Press key(s) for MENU"

Also in the User Manual (README.pdf) it says "When using Gamecube controllers, it’s possible to map an alternate key combo in Controller settings: by default, pressing and simultaneously DPAD and Z will bring you back to Main Menu as well."

That's explicit enough to me and I don't see how an annoying wordy pop-up window would improve anything.

Chill, man. Again: it was a mere humble suggestion, not a request.

By the way, you are assuming that everyone is getting GenPlusGX through your Downloads section, when the reality is that some of us just get them using the builds folder (and previous to that, dols posted on forums, since 2013), which commonly contains the latest code changes, and obviously does not come bundled with any manual whatsoever.

    Anyway, moving on. Cheers.

Not assuming anything, I know perfectly well that most people don't read READMEs.

I was only saying that what you were suggesting as an improvement was already there (it tells you to press "key(s)" for MENU) and that no matter how much more detailled information you add on-screen, there will still be people ignoring it or not paying attention, that's all.
