WAV issues with Sonic CD

Issue #445 invalid
Al-Ameen Adewunmi created an issue

What are the steps to reproduce the problem?

I got an official Sonic CD ISO. I got MP3 files from this website: http://www.mediafire.com/file/8i6gv91m31od8iw/SountTrack+SNC.zip

I then used an audio converter (that wasn't online) to convert them to WAV files. I made sure to make it the correct output. I also have a CUE file, as shown in the photo, that I created using the Sega Cue Maker.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expected to hear Sonic CD with music, but as shown in the other photo, it's not working correctly. 99 tracks are shown instead of 35.

What version / port of the emulator are you using ?

I'm using the latest version.

What emulator settings (system, video, audio,...) are you using ?

All settings are default.

Two possibilities: - WAV files are not in correct format (shall be 16-bit stereo@44100Hz) - invalid CUE file (FILE field of ISO and WAVE files in CUE file shall exactly match the name of your files)

Try to remove the CUE file and load the ISO file instead (the emulator does not need CUE file with ISO file and Will automatically find WAV files if named like the ISO file): if it still does not work, the problem is WAV file format, otherwise it is with the CUE file.

In any cases, there is nothing wrong with emulator, it has been tested with this game just fine and all supported formats (chd, cue+bin, iso+wav, iso+ogg, cue+iso+wav, etc).

Also, from your screenshot, it seems like the game is not even detected (it should boot straight to the game after BIOS, not CD player interface) which seems to indicate you loaded an invalid CUE file (i.e not correctly pointing to your ISO file).

If you can not figure it out, just copypaste the content of your CUE file here and we should able to find out what is wrong with it.

I moved the CUE to a different location and loaded up just the ISO, however I got the exact same result as before. And I made sure that the WAV files were the correct output when I converted the MP3 files.IMG_3383.JPGIMG_3382.JPG

No, it looks different. It now has CD-ROM option apparent in menu, this was not there before, and the disc time is much larger: this indicates you probably loaded an invalid CUE file before, hence why I asked that you post the content of your CUE file (just open it with a text editor and copypaste it here).

I noticed we already had similar discussion two years ago, with the exact same game: https://bitbucket.org/eke/genesis-plus-gx/issues/244/iso-size-limit. The problem is probably invalid converted WAV files again so please upload the first WAV file here so I can have a look.

As suspected, CUE file is invalid : it should be MODE1/2048 for an ISO file (MODE1/2352 is for raw BIN file)

Anyway, that's just one of your problems. The fact audio stills does not work when you load the ISO file directly (but the game probably boots fine though) is likely caused by invalid (or unsupported) WAV file format. You can upload SonicCD 02.wav file somewhere so I can have a look and see if this is similar issue than last time.

I personally use dbPowerAmp Free to convert MP3/APE files to WAV or OGG and never had any issues.

I don't have the WAV file uploaded yet, but can you tell me the exact settings you use to convert a music file to 16-bit WAV? I can't afford to mess up again.

Hey, the WAV files have the LIST tag that you said they shouldn't have. Does that mean they're bad?Untitled.png

I can't download your file, please use proper online upload service (like https://uploadfiles.io/)

LIST tag should be supported (skipped) by the emulator when loading WAV files (see that old thread above where you reported similar issue and support for this kind of converted WAV files was added) but I would not be sure until I see this WAV file.

Alternatively, use the program I told you to use (dbPowerAmp Free) as it produces clean WAV file
