The Cold War was a prolonged state of political and military tension between the United States and Soviet Union, their respective allies (the western world and communist states respectively), their respective proxies and the countries they dominated. The core issues included the status of Berlin and other territorial disputes, the support and protection of client states in other regions, the economic political ideology and personal charisma of the key figureheads - Khrushchev for the USSR and Reagan for the US.
