Review: tl;dr - This might be nit-picky, but I'm dinging this book because of a problem in a single early example.In chapter 1, pages 9-10, Example 1-6 gives a small firm's financial transactions for a month.The intent is to demonstrate that double-entry bookkeeping 1) inherently exposes typos/errors, and 2) produces a "trial balance" that gives an overall view of the firm's financial activity.The example succeeds in goal #2, and fails in goal #1.A transaction-amount typo is introduced in the first section of the example (450 vs 400), is propagated through part (but not all) of the middle double-entry section, and is missing in the final trial balance.The double-entry numbers are not internally consistent, and don't agree with the trial balance at the end.(Also, there are inconsistent date conventions--"1 Feb" vs. "Feb 1", and at least one completely incorrect date, but those are lesser sins.)To restate:this simple example, intended to demonstrate how double-entry bookkeeping makes data-entry errors nigh-impossible, includes /exactly this kind of error/ and makes no mention of it.I haven't read all of the book; I've only just begun.Overall, I have no complaints about the content or writing style.But in an introductory book about accounting, where the audience is assumed to have no familiarity with the topic, attention to detail is not optional.This feels lazy and irresponsible.
