Professional Shop Bundle

Issue #69 new
Scott Ogren created an issue

I am looking to purchase your Professional Shop Bundle and I noticed that many of the add ons aren’t listed on the Concrete CMS Marketplace right now. Are you still selling and supporting them? Are they disabled because of the version 8 to version 9 transition? I’m not in a huge hurry to buy, I haven’t even installed the Concrete CMS on the website yet as I am building content, but I do want to make the site live in the next month or two.

Also, when will it be possible to make subcategories in the Shop system? I want to be able to create several categories, then have the user be able to sort by several search criteria they select. This will also be entirely digital products, which I assume the Bitter Shop system supports.

Thank you.

    Hi Scot,

fist at all: The Bitter Shop System which is available on www.bitter.de ist not the Bitter Shop System which is available in the marketplace. Reason: There is no upgrade strategy yet. The Bitter Shop System 2.0 (available at www.bitter.de) was completly refactored and is based on Doctrine Entities instead of Express which is more faster and reliable. Even if I like the approaches of Express in praxis this leads into to many conflicts and due to core updates. This was the main reason for why I have created this project from scratch.

Furthermore the PDF Designer is not part of the Shop System as well.

You are referring to the “Professional Shop Bundle”. This included The Theme + Shop System + CMS included. Means this is a starting point package. You just need to install it like the normal Concrete CMS Installation that you can download on concretecms.org.

    Support is offered at www.bitter.de/support

All products available on www.bitter.de are well supported and updated.

BUT most add-ons are not V9 ready yet. They all are run stable in V8 and theoretically should run stable as well on V9 too. But it could be that there are parts affected that won’t run on V9.

I don’t have the time for checking and upgrading all add-ons to V9 so I only can do this one by one when I have some free time.

But we are running a lot of highly frequented production sites with Bitter Shop System without any issues. But V8 based.

Search filters for frontend you need to build by your own. But you will have a solid base thanks to the shop system.

Because V9 doesn’t seem ready for expanded use yet, I will be installing V8 of Concrete CMS. Also, the Bitter Shop System allows me to sell digital products, right? I am going to build a website where only digital products will be sold. Users will be able to download their files after purchase. I am very likely going to buy Bitter Shop System, I am just making sure digital downloads are supported after purchase.

In Bitter Shop System 2 not by default. But you can easily extend it if you have experience in Concrete CMS development. E.g. for my own website www.bitter.de I'm using the shop system V2 as well and providing digital downloads. I have added a File-Download Attribute, created a account single page for downloading the files and catch the payment_received events. You should be able to get your own implementation in about 2-3hrs I think. Otherwise you can hire me as well for this small job.

If you want digital downloads natively supported you can use the shop system version 1 but I don’t recommend that. Firstly I no longer maintain this add-on (only security patches) and secondly it’s rely on Express which makes a lot of issues in longterm.

I am not much of a programmer, so I would need someone else to write the code to support the digital downloads. About how much would you charge for that?

I also have another website that I am (very slowly) building that I will be needing to install an ecommerce platform on. The website we have now is an old version of Concrete5 and uses the old ecommerce block. We sell a few things and memberships is one of them. When someone makes a purchase, the ecommerce block puts the user in a user group. Is that difficult to program? How much would you charge for that? You can see the current site at https://oregonwhitewater.org/

hourly rate is 100 EUR + 19% VAT.

For first task I would charge 3hrs (setup + working implementation of digital downloads feature). But this is just functionality. if you want design tweaks or additional features outside the scope this will be an extra task. Together with the shop system package the total would be 654,5 EUR

According to the Oregon White Water site:

Memberships are not supported by the shop system. Neither in V1 or V2. Normally memberships are more difficult then just putting a user into an group. You need to support recurring payments which is a completely different approach. Furthermore you need to track the payments in case a payment has been failed etc. So supporting memberships in the normal way is to time intense and the demand is not available. But if you just want to put a user in a group after buying a single “membership product” this is possible with just 3 lines of code 🙂 I won’t change anything for this. Just the normal license package for 297,50 EUR + if you want 1hr extra for installation service at 119 EUR 19% VAT included. But be are you need to migrate all the products and contents manually because this project is running on 5.6 which is completely outdated.

You can email me at fabian@bitter.de

I think this kind of talk is nothing for a open support ticket. So I will close now.

    Thanks.
