What's CSL?

CSL stands for "Citation Style Language", and refers to an XML schema and related documentation that have grown out of original work initiated by Bruce D'Arcus, augmented by contributions by other projects and individuals under his editorship. The XML schema in its current format (RelaxNG) began taking shape in the Summer of 2004, leading to a draft schema that emerged in October of the same year. This schema became the basis for citation formatting in Zotero (early on, prior to its public release, when it was known as Scholar) in the Summer of 2006.
