This bug report came out of a phone conversation with @pefarrell providing feedback from 30 users at Oxford. So the idea is to provide something basic for beginner users, rather than help out expert users who probably have their favourite text editor already on the host system.

So, I would rather not add more text editors. If you want to argue that jed is a better choice than nano, then I'm listening!

I'm a emacs user and I prefer jed over nano because it is similar to emacs, although very lightweight of course. It's no big deal though. I can manage with nano or vim.
