Issue #230 resolved

Prof Garth Wells created an issue 2014-02-03

The HDF5 interface does not check that output subdirectories exist. This leads to a failure if subdirectory does not exist.

Fix is the create the subdir if required. Other output formats already do this,

Not sure if it really needs MPI::barrier() but it feels safer.
