Product license being generated even when product doesn't require it

When creating a variable product and leaving the “Product License” checkbox unchecked, after a successful purchase of the product a license key is generated for it anyway.

It’s been creating some confusion with a couple of my customers who have complained about receiving info (in the confirmation email) with a license key when the product is advertised as not requiring one.

I’m not sure if this is a recent or longstanding issue, because I’ve only recently started offering some products that don’t require a license
