Overview

Konekt Framework 2.0

Konekt Framework (or short kfw) is a php MVC framework for creating websites and web apps with the following priorites:

  • The resulting application has to be fast;
  • The Framework's size should be small;
  • Applications can be written quickly;
  • 100% code control - no mysticism;
  • Clean and simple;
  • Design and code separated;
  • Flexible and extensible;
  • Clean OOP and MVC.

Note: The version 1 of the framework can be found at Github and on Launchpad

What Is The Konekt Framework?

Oh well, yes, this is just another PHP MVC Framework.

Ok, What Is It Good For Me?

For quickly creating custom websites and web applications.

Where's The Name From?

  • Connect, because I didn't reinvent the wheel, but connected my favourite PHP components together.
  • C->K - because the word connect is more than overloaded.
  • And finally n instead of nn because the word konekt had only a few thousands of results in Google in Falls 2011 when it came to birth.

Requirements

The Konekt Framework requires at least:

  • PHP 5.3+ (kfw v1 works with php 5.2)
  • A web server that can rewrite requests (Apache with mod_rewrite preferred)
  • A writeable folder on the web server (for compiled templates, cache, etc)

Components Konekted

Core Components

The components below establish the foundation of the Konekt Framework. They are 100% included in the Framework, however their access often happens in a controlled way, not directly.

Doctrine 2.3

The foundation of kfw's Model layer is the latest version of the Doctrine ORM/ODM 2.x series. As a result models can be generated from yaml schema files or directly back from database.

Note: The version 1 of the framework is based on Doctrine 1.2

Smarty 3

The View layer gets rendered with the great Smarty template engine. The kfw uses Smarty 3.1.

Utilities

PHPMailer

For proper and advanved E-mail sending the PHPMailer 5.2.1 is bundled. You can access it via a standard kfw wrapper class from within the Framework/Email module or directly.

GeoIP

For IP based country lookup the Free GeoIP library is used. The pure PHP module is bundled in the Framework. For sites with large traffic it's worth to switch to either the PECL Extension or mod_geoip that are wrappers around the C library, resulting in a meaningful performance gain.

Currently it is a planned feature to make it configurable whether to use the pure php library, mod_geoip or the PECL Extension.

Markdown

There is a Markdown parser built in the Framework/Core module. It's using Michel Fortin's PHP implementation along with his extras. The kfw also extends it a little bit.

TimThumb

TimThumb is an advanced image thumbnail generation tool used by the Cms/Image module. This is mostly invisible, but this is the library that does the cropping, resizing and thumbnail generation of the images uploaded.
