Help with subtitles

So I was trying to add subtitles to a movie I downloaded, but when i added the .srt file, the subtitle track wasn't numbered, and instead said NA. everything was a zero. I paid no attention to it and added it to iTunes, but the subtitle button wasn't there. This was strange, because this had never happened before at all.

I tried it with different subtitles from a different movie, and they worked, but after a while they stopped working as well. I downloaded subtitles from all across the internet, but none of them worked at all. I tried downloading every version of subler on here, but nothing works.

I would really appreciate some help here.

Did you save the file after adding the subtitles? Btw things you find in the net are usually broken, nothing I can do about it. Better to encode the movie yourself.

Hey, it's me again. I just made this account. Yes, I saved the file, and I did get the subtitle button on itunes, but when i clicked it it said "Undetermined" and didn't work. I download my subtitles from one specific site, and it usually works. I've gotten subtitles from this site to save to my movies without a hitch. This is the first time it's gone completely wrong.
