Subler Enhancements Requests

Issue #422 closed

Sorry for lumping all of these into one post. I wasn't sure if it'd be more annoying but easier to track if I made them all separate posts so let me know what you'd prefer for next time.

  1. Add a global checkbox in preferences for "import existing Metadata from file" that I'd be able to uncheck, both for the Queue and for opening individual MKV windows. I usually don't like to import in whatever additional junk metadata my ripping or encoding apps tack on, so an option to have it rejected by default would be awesome.

  2. Can Episode, Season, and Track Numbers all get prepended with a 0 if the numbers are in the single digits?

  3. Would there be a way to detect the “Series Episode Number” and place that in the episode number field rather than the episode’s number within its respective season? I find that Track number works better for “number within current season” ie: episode 1 of current season / of 10 episodes this season. Meanwhile, Episode Number is better for overall series episode number.

  4. When switching between metadata search services (say switching from TheTVDB to iTunes), Subler does not auto-search the new selection and this can sometimes lead to confusion over which results I am seeing. It’s tripped me up a couple of times when moving fast, so I’ll have to pause after switching, and manually hit the search button again. A small but frustrating thing as Subler used to do this.

  5. Allow “Location” field in Queue to cache frequently used locations, instead of only “Movies” folder. My typical use is “same as file” and or another location that isn’t the Movies folder in my home folder, but on an external drive. Since I switch between the two, I’m constantly having to browse and navigate to that folder.

Thanks for all that you do!

    1. Done for the import sheet, the checkbox will remember the state.

    2. Where exactly?

    3. Detect where? Do you have an example?

    4. Maybe

    5. Yes, it would be nice

    1. Thanks!

    2. Specifically to the "Season" and "Episode #" metadata tags, so that anytime they are single digits they would start with a zero. I use the format "S(Season)E(Episode #)" for my Episode ID field rather than the one iTunes supplies, because there isn't ID consistency between shows. The prepended zeros would help with housekeeping/organization, and save me a ton of time doing this manually.

    3. For example, Season 09, Episode 01 of The Office is the 177th overall episode of the show. iTunes metadata just labels "Episode #" as 1 instead of 177, so I usually look up the correct number in Wikipedia and add it by hand. I don't know if any of the metadata sources supply the overall Episode # though, so it might be too much to ask.

    4. Pretty please ☺️

    5. Thanks!

I've included some screenshots of the changes I usually make when editing my metadata. After lots of testing, I've found this method keeps things the most tidy in iTunes as well as other apps someone might use.

This version has a few issues: 1) It forces my window size to be a fixed size. Despite resizing and having "remember window size" checked, it ignores these preferences and always defaults to a set size. 2) In individual MKV import windows, it will remember that I uncheck the "import metadata" box when opening a new file, but despite being uncheck, it will still import the metadata anyway.

The queue's "Clear Existing Metadata" box works as it should though.

For this version, the file windows maintain their window size, but now if you have the Queue window set to display, any files that trigger Subler to launch (I set MKVs and M4Vs to launch Subler) are always mapped to the top left corner of the Queue and set to open behind the Queue window.
