Metadata saved to video file

Is the metadata that's added to an MP4 video file in Subler (cast, director, producer, genre, release date, etc) saved in the actual file itself?

The reason I ask is because I've read comments in other forums that suggest this type of metadata can appear to go missing (or get stripped) when the video files are transferred to a cloud-based backup service, or to a different file system. Is that because the metadata itself is not stored in the file itself, but uses forks in the macOS file system itself?

Yes the metadata are stored in the actual file, so unless the cloud-based backup service edit the file, nothing will be lost.
