Subler staging window indicates 7.1 audio will be encoded as 6ch, but then (properly) encodes into 8ch

Issue #497 new
Bryan H created an issue

This example uses a TrueHD stream

The two methods I use to convert tv episodes from mkv to mp4 is to either:

1. drag and drop the file into the queue and subler uses the saved preferences to remux the file to .mp4. My default for digital audio tracks is to have it encoded as aac multi channel.

2. a) double click the .mkv to open in subler, my default program for file type .mkv.

b) manually select the audio tracks and subtitles I want to keep, choosing aac multi channel for digital tracks.

c) press command-B to add it to the queue.

Method one will properly encoded all 8 channels from either a TrueHD or Dolby Digital 7.1 track.

Method two only encodes six of the eight channels.

I can't reproduce the issue with the 7.1 files I have. Can you send me a small test file I can use?

In putting together a sample, it revealed that the error is elsewhere. When using method 2, the subler staging window displays that the 'True HD, 8 ch' track selected to be encoded as 'AAC - Multi-channel' will be 'AAC, 6ch', but then when it is processed, it does in fact, encode all 8ch.

previously, seeing the indication of 6ch caused me to seek alternative methods instead of processing as what I thought would be 6ch.

I am having this same problem - I would love to be able to convert the TrueHD 7.1 audio to a multi-channel 8 channel AAC. Can we fix this one or make it possible to just convert that way?
