Stop making Subler the default app for mp4 files

Issue #532 on hold
Alessandro Segala created an issue

Every time I install or update Subler, it automatically makes itself the default app for mp4 files on my Mac. I love Subler, but most times when I open a video file I’m trying to play it, even without subtitles 🙂

Is there a way that you could stop macOS from doing that? 🙂 It’s VERY annoying…

    With all due respect:

    1. If you are really sure this is a bug in Apple’s code, then you should be the one opening a ticket with them. It’s not the users' responsibility to report upstream issues.
    2. Considering that Subler is the only app that manifests this issue (and I’ve been using macOS for a decade, with many apps on top of that, and I’ve never experienced something like that), I am more keen on thinking the bug in somewhere in Subler.

If you don’t care about this issue because it’s not high priority, I could understand (no one is paying you to build Subler anyways).

    1. I already did.
    2. There is no default app on macOS set as ‘editor’ for mp4 files. Subler must be set to ‘editor’ because if not NSDocument doesn’t work the right way.

If you knows a workaround, feel free to submit a pull request.

I can take a look into that.

PS: If you already did submit a bug report to Apple, why didn’t you tell me earlier, rather than telling me to go and do it myself (considering I don’t know the code, nor the context)…

Because the bug reports in Apple bug trackers counts as votes, more duplicated means a better probability that the bug will be fixed.
