Issue copying metadata

Issue #582 resolved
Dru Kepple created an issue

I acknowledge this is something of an edge case…but when I do this:

  • At a previous time, I’ve dragged one MP4 into another, and imported tracks but deselected the “Import Metadata” option
  • Now, at a later time, I open an MP4
  • I have a second MP4 that:

    • Has metatdata
    • Has no other tracks
  • If I drag the second MP4 into the first MP4’s window nothing happens

It turns out that Subler remembers the state of the “Import Metadata” checkbox.

But if that’s the only thing that could be imported by an MP4, the import operation just quits.

I can go to File > Import > Meadata… BUT it would be nice that IF an MP4 contains only metadata, then that is imported regardless of the state of the “import metadata” checkbox.

Or is that just me?

I guess the true issue is that the operation silently fails. At the very least I would like it if there was some sort of notification of why the operation is failing. Maybe in this case the standard “select tracks” drop down sheet could appear, letting me select “import metadata?”

I only report this as an issue because I’ve found it handy to store metadata in otherwise empty MP4 files, then use Subler to copy the metadata into other MP4 files. I’ve lost a fair amount of time on this failing drag method before I realized what the problem was…

Steps: posted above

Subler version: 1.6.4

OS: macOS Catalina

If the imported file contains only subtitles tracks, the subtitles tracks are automatically imported. There is a bug that makes it take this route even if there are no tracks.

Anyway, I can change it to show the import sheet if there are no tracks, or to import the metadata automatically.
