MP4 made with iMovie contains metadata that Subler does not show?
Issue #597
new
A movie file exported from Apple iMovie contains a title and description that do not appear in Subler. Not sure if this is a bug or would be an enhancement to allow editing.
Sample file attached. Subler 1.6.5, macOS 10.15.5, iMovie 10.1.14.
To reproduce:
- In iMovie, create a project. I hadn’t used it on this Mac, so the default project title was
My Movie 1
- Add media to the project so you have something to output.
- File menu > Share > File…
- The export dialog will have the project title and a default description (
This video is about My Movie 1
). Do not change them. You can adjust quality settings for faster export. - Click Next to save the file. Use a file name that does not match the project title, like
export.mp4
. - Open the file in QuickTime Player.
-
Observe:
- In the window’s titlebar, you see the iMovie project title instead of the file name.
- In the movie inspector (Window menu > Show Movie Inspector) you see both the title and description from iMovie.
-
Open the file in Subler.
- Select the Metadata track.
Expected result: the title and description should appear as metadata items.
Actual result: no metadata appears.
