Is AAC-multi-channel a good option for TrueHD
Issue #633
new
This is more of a question than a bug. Hope this is ok to post here. I want to preserve a TrueHD audio stream and from what I know and I have researched is that AAC-multi-channel is a lossless format that supports virtually an unlimited number of audio channels (at least for my needs). Is there any disadvantage of converting TrueHD to AAC-multi-channel? Will I loose any quality after conversion?

repo owner No, AAC is not lossless. ALAC is lossless.

reporter Is there such a thing as ALAC - Multichannel or other fully lossless format that could be used? If so, feature request? It would be really nice to store TrueHD in an MP4 container.

You can have TrueHD in a MP4 container, but few players support TrueHD. Apple Lossless supports multichannel.

Assuming no to both my questions as both formats are lossless however my assumption could be wrong so I thought I’d ask!
