Update fails with a dialog saying "Subler can’t be updated if it’s running from the location it was downloaded to."

Issue #734 invalid
John Gibson created an issue

Issue: When running an update of Subler, it errors out with a dialog box saying the application is running in the place that it was downloaded:”

I installed a new version of Subler on my Macbook Pro 16” M1; I missed the donate menu item, hit the update menu item, and was presented with the following dialog box.

Version of Subler: Version 1.7.5 (1.7.5)

MacOS version: 14.2 (23C64)

I labeled this a minor bug because I can update it, if needed, by downloading a new version from the website. However, if there is an update available (none was available when I initiated the update) and this error occurs then I would consider it a major issue.

it’s not a bug, it’s a security feature in macOS. You have to manually move Subler to a different folder in Finder, and then you can move it back if you want. It’s called “app translocation”.
