Feature ideas

Issue #10 new
Mark Burnett created an issue

Here are some features I thought would be useful:

  1. Captions on the icons for when you have multiple browser profiles
  2. Move "Automatically close after selecting browser" to the options dialog, does it really need to show every time?
  3. Have options to clean up the pop up, even remove title bar
  4. Make a browser plugin that integrates with BrowserChooser2, so when you go to a certain URL it opens the default browser based on the Auto-URLs settings.
  5. Allow for hidden items, so for example if you have an FTP client, you can map FTP URLS to that, but it won't show up in the main pop-up.
  6. Allow for integration with web API's or have the option to include placeholders in the parameters. For example, integration with VirusTotal, NetCraft, SSLLabs, BuiltWith, Whois, whoishostingthis, Geo IP lookup, subscribe with feedly, add to bitly, readability, broken links checkers, etc.

Great tool, hope you keep up the development on it!

    Interesting ideas.

    1. Captions on the icons for when you have multiple browser profiles With the current look, it may not fit in properly. However, I am looking into a more modern / metro UI and this would fit in nice.
    2. Move "Automatically close after selecting browser" to the options dialog, does it really need to show every time? A relic from the original version. Will make it possible ot hide it.
    3. Have options to clean up the pop up, even remove title bar With the new look, easy. The older AERO look, no so much.
    4. Make a browser plugin that integrates with BrowserChooser2, so when you go to a certain URL it opens the default browser based on the Auto-URLs settings Not in the current plans. I don't know anything about browser plugins. If a dev want to make one, I will glady add integration.
    5. Allow for hidden items, so for example if you have an FTP client, you can map FTP URLS to that, but it won't show up in the main pop-up. I had tried to do that with the categories. It kinda does that if you enable advanced features and remove FTP from browsers and remove HTTP(S) from FTP clients. The next version will try to make this simpler and more evident.
Definitely will be in the next version. I have had several requests recently for exactly this. Not sure on details yet, but will be there. Other than UI, this will be the next big feature. What would help is examples on how the command line should look.
    7. Great tool, hope you keep up the development on it! Most definitely will! I've been doing this for at least 3 years now and I keep getting great new suggestions! Kinda odd on how this started as I'll just fix this one small thing... :)

Move "Automatically close after selecting browser" to the options dialog, does it really need to show every time? This is now implemented in code. Haven't touched the others yet. Probably not for a while.
