If we increase bakdif by a factor ten this looks like

Here’s the gamma vs t plot for this case with current next (blue and orange) for different opt_source values as well as the case using the changes in PR #657 (green). Note how blue and orange oscillate significantly whilst green is fairly flat (all three are oscillating, it’s just the range is much smaller on green). The mode structure (normalised magnitude of the real component) in phi is also shown.
