Replace uses of svn revision with git hash.
get_git_hash() returns to 40 character git hash

get_git_hash(length) returns the first length characters of the git hash.

This commit needs updates to utils in the utils PR #2.

These changes are needed for the tests to run, so I'd like them to go into master rather than next. See PR #8.
