Exponent e highlighting

In the exponent representation of small and large numbers in scientific/engineering notation, it can be hard to visually discern an exponent e separating the mantissa/significand and the exponent part. It would be nice to have an option (or by default) to highlight the e in a different color. For example, highlighting the e in 123e45.
