comma decimal separator

Issue #827 new
Former user created an issue

God morning everybody, I use Speedcrunch since long time, but for 1st time I saw something which may induce errors in your calculations: I use commas as decimal separators, as it is usual in France or Peru and some other countries. I had to use a temperature conversion, and the given formula is with a point as decimal separator. I entered my temperature in ºc at its place, BUT DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE DECIMAL POINT REGISTERED IN THE FORMULA. as a result, 37ºc was converted in 698ºf. Could it be possible to adjust the decimal separators in the formulas as per the user choice in the software ? This is a really minor problem, but for someone who is just waking up it maybe a problem. Best regards.

There is an user option for choosing the separator (radix character): dot, comma, or dot and comma. Check your Options menu, then second entry (Input Format, in English). I can't recall the version where this was introduced though. Which version are you running?

Good morning Mr. Helder I am using the very last build installed a few days ago with your ppa (V.0.12 built with QT5.5.1) on linux Mint 18.3 64 bits, mate edition. I use the thousand separators as a small space, and the decimal separator as a comma. This issue is really a minor one as one who knows this problem can take care to not fall in the same trap. The options I use are thousand separators: small spaces decimal separators: commas If using commas only, (to obtain a result with comma decimal separator), the decimal point in a formula constant is not accounted and 18.6 is considered as 186) It works with commas and points, but the given result will always be with a decimal point. (I am a french natural, technical translator, and my boss is very rigid with the french typos. They admit spaces or points as thousand separators, bur commas as decimal seps..) Is it not possible to use the system language parameters to solve this ?

BTW, I really appreciate your software since several years (my 1st download was on v.0.10 or v0.10.1. It has the most practical interface.

    Best regards JF Duhamel

Hi, JF. Thank you for the kind words. To answer your question, that's exactly what the Séparateur par défaut option is for.
