SUGGESTION: Toolbar & Buttons For Dockable Windows

Issue #972 wontfix
Former user created an issue

Hello, I would love for speedcrunch to have buttons accessible by a single click which toggle dockable windows on/off. Part of this enhancement would probably include adding a toolbar widget which itself would be dockable, contained in the toolbar widget would be configurable toggle buttons for each of the menu items contained in the View menu.

I am willing to develop this enhancement myself! So if there is interest, I can share my work rather than keeping to myself. Once a toolbar is added to speedcrunch it could very easily be extended to have even more functionality. I think this idea is in line with what I see philosophically in speedcrunch, which is to make the interface extremely flexible for the end user.

In my personal use case, I have many custom functions and variables, which I mostly remember, but occasionally need to reference. It is a waste of screen real estate to have the Variables and Functions windows open all the time, but it is inconvenient to use the menu to toggle them. I tend to have one hand on the mouse and the other hand on the number pad, so using keyboard shortcuts to toggle these windows is not as convenient as having a button. Currently, I get similar functionality to what I want by undocking the windows and using my window manager to control them.

Sorry! I created this without logging in, and I did not mean to make it a major priority. I don’t know how to fix this, I think someone will have to fix it for me.

I would rather not introduce a toolbar in SpeedCrunch. It was designed to be as slick and keyboard-driven as possible. The keyboard shortcuts already serve the “single-click” convenience purpose you requested.
