Maybe just by double-clicking the main button of an empty slot (and opening a piano roll).

Resolve ~~#32~~ Double clicking an empty slot fills it with empty MIDI clip and opens it in editor

re ~~#32~~ If auto-play recorded clips is enabled and the transport is running, the empty MIDI clip will be automatically triggered
