Schedule automation together with items. Unfortunately, REAPER doesn't have automation clips. But maybe it's achievable by other means.

    REAPER 5 introduces take FX automation using take envelopes. This moves into the right direction!

    REAPER 5.11pre4 introduces MIDI-controllable FX parameter modulation. 14-bit MIDI CCs are supported so resolution of 16384 possible values is possible, not only 127. So now we have automation items. No need to implement a workaround for that in Playtime.
