Issue #614 resolved

No green confirmation screen on 60D

On my 60D, I followed all the instructions and was waiting for the green confirmation screen but I got a black screen. I let it sit for about 10 seconds and got scared and ejected the battery. When I turned the camera back on it was the same as before I started. No ML. What should I do?

I had the same issue, but waited longer. After a while ERR started flashing on my upper display. I restarted the camera and the ML was installed. Confusing, but happy :)

No, the info button. When you start the camera, it should have the display on (and all shooting settings that you normally see in the tiny display).

Do you actually mean that we must first set the camera to NOT turn the display off or what? Because when the update starts the display is turned on and after a while it switches off by default, even in the Bulb mode. Or start the update and then push the info button?

I am having the same problem as the original poster. I am trying to update my week old Canon 60D that came with Firmware 1.1.0 already installed. I have followed the instructions outlined in the unified instructions and on this thread. The card was low level formated, camera settings reset to default, made sure the info screen was always visible, put the card into my sd slot on my computer and extracted all files in the unified release to the card and verified they were there, i did extract to the root and not a folder, put the card back into my camera, turned it on and made sure the info screen was always showing, went to the wrench screen to update firmware, when i press ok to udate it goes to a screen that says updating firmware the goes black and the drive light turns on for about 3 seconds then off for 3 seconds and continues this endlessly I assume.I have tried this several times and even let it run (maybe foolishly) for about 3 minutes before turning off and removing the battery which is the only way to stop the card reader light from blinking. It has always booted back up fine into the canon software but MagicLantern refuses to install.

I forgot to add that my camera is set to B like the instructions state. Thanks, Paul

Sorry for the run on sentence above and thanks for the help and the product.

"when i press ok to udate it goes to a screen that says updating firmware the goes black and the drive light turns on for about 3 seconds then off for 3 seconds and continues this endlessly I assume."

This happens when Magic Lantern does not recognize the firmware version of the camera (it just refuses to boot).

Please contact me by mail so I can send you a custom FIR for troubleshooting. It's not dangerous, it will only save the firmware contents to a file on the card and you'll have to send me that file so I can analyze it.

Update to posts #9-12. A1ex had me try the following and it worked perfectly. Anyone having an issue on a camera that came with the 1.1.0 already installed can try this if the Unified MagicLantern firmware won't load:

After reinstalling firmware 1.1.0 from the CanonUSA site over the 1.1.0 firmware that was installed at the factory the MagicLantern unified code worked perfectly. It installed quickly and I did get a green screen confirmation after completion. Thanks for the help.

I guess you should probably use the CanonXXX site for whatever region your in.

Hey Alex, just wanted to let you know that I tried again with your directions and it worked perfectly! In fact, it seemed that having that quick control screen up forced the firmware to load right away. Now I just need to find out what all this stuff does. lol

    Thanks.

Quick question: I don't have to have the firmware on all my cards do I?

    Hi,

when i switch card with no mL installed, even the camera is turned off a message will appear NO FIRMWARE UPDATE FOUND..

do i need to uninstall ML on Camera?..

Hi, I have Canon 60D and 16Gb SDHC Transcend card. I've updated the firmware to 1.1.0. with no problem. Then formatted card again and unzipped magiclantern-2011Aug28.550D.109.60D.110.600D.101.alex.zip content to the SD card. When I start up the cam the info screen is on. I go to Wrench3 screen to start the firmware update (install ML), then to Firmware ver. 1.1.0, push SET - it says 'Memory card containing firmware is required to update and OK button'. When I push OK button, it just returns to the previous screen (Wrench3 list). It looks like nothing is happening - no green, no black screens. Did I oversee something? Thanx in advance, Roman

This seems to be a problem again. I have pretty much tried all the workarounds and intermediate drops mentioned in this thread (Aug 22, 28, Nov 11, etc) and I do not see the green confirmation screen. The symptoms are the same. Have a new Canon 60D with already installed 1.1.0 firmware. Formated card, copied files, made sure that the shooting display is always on, cleared settings, put on M mode, etc. etc.

I see that the "firmware loader" flashes for 1 sec, then screen goes blank. See the card reader light blinking once in a while for 3 sec. How do I re open this issue?

    Thanks! Girish

Posting this again and re-opened issue as I just created an account...

Please let me know how I can help you to find the root cause of this bug now.

upgrade your Canon firmware from www.canon.com (even if you already have the correct firmware version number!) and try again. When I meet this problem, I succeed in this way. Good luck! A voice come from Chian

    Hello!

i´ve tried it on my 60D too and it does not work for me. also not with the .alex.zip version

I did it step by step following the instructions, tried it with P, M, B Mode. Display is set to the info screen, settings and usersettings are removed, card low level formatted several times..

but as soon as I choose fw update it turns black, the card-read/write led is blinking :(

what´s going wrong ?? (Fw is also the correct one)

same problem here. I spent 2 days on this but the only result is: black screen endlessly.

I get the same result on my new 60D. I go to re-install the firmware even though I have 1.1.0 already. it says 'Memory card containing firmware is required to update and OK button'. When I push OK button, it just returns to the previous screen (Wrench3 list)....What can be done?

I upgraded my 60D to the latest firmware (1.1.1) before finding ML. Is there any way that I can install it any way?
