Canon 550d behaving erratically

Issue #1039 resolved

I have been using magic lantern for my 550d for a lot of months now and have been continuously updating it.

I have two SD cards and I had magic lantern on one of them. When I wanted to use magic lantern I would use one card or otherwise I would use the other card. Things worked perfectly.

Now I figured out I could not boot magic lantern by holding the set button while booting so I decided to install it on the other card too.

For this I followed only step to of the instructions. I did a low level format using camera, copied the files and then did a firmware update in camera. I got nice green confirmation message.

However on the reboot the camera did not start. I did switch it off but did not take out the battery in time. Later I took out the battery.

  1. Since then the camera sometimes boots up when there is no card in camera.
  2. The camera once did boot with my old magic lantern SD card.
  3. The camera never boots with the SD card in which I installed it recently.
  4. The camera did not boot up with a third SD card which does not have magic lantern too.

My camera does not seem to be bricked since it does come alive once a while.

Is there any way I can remove magic lantern from my cards without using my camera on only from my pc?

If I give my camera to Canon service will they figure out I have used magic lantern? Is my warranty void?

To remove Magic Lantern from one card, you need to format the card.

Make sure your cards are good and also make sure you have no problems with the card slot.

If it sometimes boots, try pressing DISP (sometimes it boots with display off).

To remove Magic Lantern from the camera, run firmware upgrade and follow the instructions.

Yes, camera was booting with display off. I don't know why it has started doing this but it is new. I feel so stupid for panicking big time. Thanks a lot a1ex.

However my Mac has stopped reading my card which had cause me to be further scared.
