500d Movie REC key: HalfShutter

Issue #1107 wontfix
ats1995 created an issue

When using this setting, I can record using the zoom-out button. When using clearscreen: HalfShutter the same thing happens. I can use the zoom-out button to clear the overlays.

I thing it would be great though, to use the zoom-out button as the REC key since it's only used as exposure lock in movie. And when enabling EpoOverride, it affect the exposure.

Hmm, that is weird, because they do different things. In C.Fn there is a setting called "Shutter/AE lock button". When setting this to "AE lock/AF", I can focus with the zoom-out button, lock exposure with shutter half-press, and take photos as normal with shutter full-press.

Yes, but this is handled by another CPU (Tx19a) and we don't have access to it.

The main CPU only receives some codes named EVENTID_METERING_START and EVENTID_METERING_TIMER_START when you press half-shutter, *, AF or DOF preview.

For DOF preview it's easier, because a few moments after EVENTID_METERING_START the camera announces that it entered in DOF preview mode. Still, the button can't be overriden like "normal" buttons (arrows, SET, MENU etc).

With half-shutter as REC key, I can also start record with the ISO button, but not stop record. When attempting to stop the record, all GUI's are cleared, and the record is not stopped. It can be stopped with half-press, and half-press key Canons default rec. When stopping with Canons default key, it automatically starts a new clip. I got three ERROR 70 during these tests, just to mention.
