The T3i with magic lantern installed (properly) which I've had only for a few months is bricked. The T3i now reads every SD as locked(even if the cards aren't) and doesn't even turn on when regular non magic lantern cardss are in.You can't format any cards cause they're either locked or the camera doesn't turn on. Can someone please help me, I'm freaking out. I worked so damn hard to get this camera.

Magic Lantern is only a software mod, it can't damage the card read/write sensor (which is actually a mechanical switch).

    Double-check your card slot.

The camera reads the cards, but won't turn on if a ML intstalled card is not on. When a magic lantern installed card is on,then the card is read as locked

How is that the sd slot only responds to magic lantern installed sd and not other cards then?

None of that applies, I have removed the battery and the Sd card. I also checked if it was the battery or sd card(used other ones) and the same problem. The sd card reader does work though, because the magic lantern menu opens up,it just doesn't let me format or do anything to the card because it is "locked"

no, it says card is locked. When i press play it says card cannot be accessed. but if i keep pressing play it works, but still can't format it

I had the same problem on 550D - caused by too many card swaps. The small mechanical switch that detects the read-only state no longer works.

I've solved it by inserting a small piece of cardboard behind the card, to push its contacts firmly. The proper fix is to have the card slot serviced by Canon.

If you insert a card without autoexec.bin, it will not boot (see install guide). You need to remove the bootflag too. This is normal behavior - that's how Canon programmed the bootloader, and we won't change this.

Imagine you bought a brand new computer, and after some time you installed some software (let's say Firefox). After successfully using it for some time, you notice that all your floppy disks became read-only (or any other hardware problem). What do you do? Obviously, you claim that Firefox bricked your computer, no?

From your answers I see you have very little knowledge about how ML works (for example, you tried to boot the camera by holding SET for a long time). That's why I'm asking you to read the user and install guide thoroughly first.

There's zero possibility that ML damaged your card slot - this device is not something that can be actuated via software.

Me too... My T3i fell in the toilet and stopped working. ML bricked my camera too.

I HAD SAME PROBLEM AND I FIXED AFTER AN HOUR MESSING WITH 3 CARDS. NO PROBLEM WITH 32 SDHC BUT WRONG WITH 16 OR 8 GB. RUN EOS CARD BOOTABLE SOFTWARE AND SAVE. AFTER THAT DELETE ML FIRMWARE UPDATE FROM THE CARD. PUT IT BACK ON YOUR CAMERA AND IT WILL SAY THE CAMERA SHOULD DO A LOW FORMAT TO USE IT. AND EVERYTHING WAS OK AGAIN. AFTER TRY TO UNISTALL MAGIG LANTER AND DONT INSTALL IT AGAIN TILL COMES NEW UPDATE WITH FEATURE DISABLE LOCK CARD.
