No overlays when triggering video with shutter button...

Issue #1649 new
Jason Brooks created an issue

I recently began using an Edelkrone rig, with a video-camera style hand-grip which leaves the hand too far away to trigger the conventional rec start/stop button on the back of a 5dmk3. As a result, in the standard Canon menu, I enabled video record to be triggered by either the standard button, OR the shutter button itself.

Now, all works well, EXCEPT: When recording video with the ML overlays visible, they instantly disappear upon rec start, and are replaced with a text readout only when recording is triggered by the shutter button (although everything still functions as normal when triggered with the standard button).

The text displayed reads: HH:MM DISP0RAW NEUT T=30C BAT=44 MVI-3388

This information is also displayed (presumably intentionally) when half-pressing the shutter button in LV.

Perhaps this is due to some customisation I've made, but those are all only switching on/off overlays. I've checked and this happens whether or not I have any modules loaded.

I'm running "magiclantern-v2.3.NEXT.2013Sep07.5D3113" on a 5dmk3.

Please let me know if you would like any more info on this.

With many thanks!

Make a backup of ML settings, clear them and see if it happens again. If it doesn't restore the old ones and check what has been modified from the new "delta" menu

    Please report back

    Hi Giovanni,

I can confirm that after "resetting all" in ML menu (and powercycling camera), the problem still exists exactly as stated above.

Do let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

Looks like Canon code is keeping half-shutter "pressed". Workaround: press it halfway after you start recording.

    Also disable "zoom on halfshutter".

True. Hadn't noticed that. That workaround is fine for me.

Any other assistance/testing required (on anything at all?).

    Many thanks!
