Focus stack

Issue #631 resolved
Jim99 created an issue

Hi everyone,

First of all I would like to thank everyone involved in this project! Magic Lantern is awesome!

However, my camera is performing strangely. I looked through the list of bug reports and couldn't find anyone with the same issue.

I'm running the built from August 22 on my 550D, but the issue occurred with older versions as well. I don't know if the bug is specific to my camera or not.

I would like to run a focus stack (with moving mirror) as shown in this video: http://vimeo.com/5879032

I tried it with the kit lens (18-55mm) and the Canon 50mm prime lens, but in both cases it doesn't work.

What I did:

1.) Turn on the camera

2.) Set it to "P" mode (Same results with other modes)

3.) Turn live view on (Otherwise the camera tells me to do so)

4.) Enter ML menu

5.) Go to "Stack focus" and press "Play" (Focus distance, Hyperfocal, DOF Near and DOF Far are all == 0 cm)

--> The focus ring moves and then the camera freezes (The video is still visible, but without any icons and the camera does not respond to any inputs)

--> On the card the FST script is generated, but the files specified in the script do not exist.

Hints/other perhaps related bugs:

  • "Rack focus" does not seem to do anything.

  • "Magic zoom" does not appear anymore (Could look up which was the last working version)

I hope this is somehow helpful.

Thanks, Jim

Is silent picture off? Is there anything else in the Shoot menu on? Is autofocus assigned to * button?

Thanks a1ex, the autofocus was not assigned. Perhaps one could add

    Canon Menu -> Custom Functions -> Shutter/AE lock button -> Set "1:AE lock/AF"

to the manual under "Stack focus". This could be helpful for newbies.
