bootstrap issues

Issue #118 wontfix
Lum Ji Hsiang created an issue

Hi,

We have an older V7R1 we are trying to use the bootstrap script on. After getting an error that GTAR was not found, I executed the script commands by hand to create gtar and got

Could not load program ./gtar:
The program is a discontinued 64-bit object file.

I assume that this means I need the 32 bit version? Where could I get this?

Thanks

Sorry, but we no longer support IBM i 7.1: https://ibmsystemsmag.com/Power-Systems/08/2019/RPMs-and-YUM-on-IBM-i-7-1

The latest bootstrap installer should validate that you’re running on IBM i 7.2 or higher. Are you using an old bootstrap installer?

gtar is just a GNU tar binary. If you have another system with GNU tar installed, you can copy the binary to /tmp/gtar and it should work. Of course, once you get bootstrapped, of course, the repository now only has 7.2 rpms.
