Data type not visible in recent Samsung devices

I have a Note 5 and my friend has a S6 Edge+, we have both installed flat style indicators. Everything works flawlessly, except the data type is not visible. (4G, 3G, 1x, etc). In my area signal is spotty so it's important to know if the 2 bars are 2 bars of 2G or 2 bars of LTE... Any help would be amazing.

Let me just point out, that a simple app Network Type Indicator on Play Store can successfully display the data type, so maybe you could get some help from there.
