Unable to build for HIP

I was looking into a problem reported for the magma spack package here: https://github.com/spack/spack/issues/25856

I found that I am now unable to get hip magma to build in any circumstance. This includes version 2.6.0 and the master branch. This is very odd to me because 2.6.0 was previously working within spack and stand-alone. It appears that it is not getting some CUDA-provided things such at threadIdx. I’ve attached the log files.

Apparently caused by a problem with cmake@3.21 https://github.com/ROCmSoftwarePlatform/rocFFT/issues/322

Yes indeed - looking at the make.log, the first hip file that is encountered is compiled with clang instead of hipcc.

There is this fix for spack:
