PAPI_attach conflicts with CVE-2016-5195 ?

Issue #1 resolved
jg piccinali created an issue

Hi,

I hope it is ok to add a new issue to this site, please let me know if that's not the case. The zero_attach.c papi/5.5.1 test fails on Redhat/Centos systems with:

Kernel/2.6.32+RedHat/6.7+Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2690 v3:
ptrace(PTRACE_ATTACH): No such process

while it does not fail on other linux systems:

  • Kernel/4.4.0-47-generic+Ubuntu/16.04+Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 => PASSED

  • Kernel/3.0.101-84+SLES/11+Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 v2 => PASSED

We suspect the issue is coming from the security kernel patch we had to apply:

Do you get the same PTRACE_ATTACH error on your RedHat based systems ? Is there a known workaround ?

jg.

    This is more a kernel issue than an issue with papi: will be fixed with newer versions of the kernel => closing my request.
