"IHMC ROS API node successfully connected to controller." message misleading

When starting

roslaunch ihmc_atlas ihmc_atlas.launch ihmc_model:=ATLAS_UNPLUGGED_V5_NO_HANDS description_model:=$(rospack find ihmc_models)/urdf/atlas_unplugged_v5_no_hands.urdf

on my local machine without anything else running, I get

IHMC ROS API node successfully connected to controller.

after startup. Given that I have no controller running, the ROS API node has to be lying :)
