IBM DB2 ISSUE on IOS 7.3

Greetings from Bradford, PA. We recently upgraded our iOS on our AS400 to version 7.3 We noticed that one of our queries now behaves oddly:

SELECT IFNULL(PARENT_ID, ' ') FROM QUOTEHEADER

In this query, PARENT_ID is an integer variable, but when it counters a NULL value it returns low or high values instead of the given character space. The SPEC on IBM's website seems unclear on the expected behavior here but historical version of the code return the signle space character given.
