Window Component

Issue #361 new
Laurie Nevay created an issue

We need some component that represents a vacuum window. In reality, the thin surface might be parabolic or hemispherical due to atmospheric pressure stretching the thin surface. However, the curved nature probably isn’t important vs. just some material; at least for high energy accelerators.

Propose we add a new beamline component which is a ‘window’ of sorts (name to be confirmed) that has a thickness and material.

Perhaps both a new component (that would take some finite length in the beamline, and the possibility to flag an end of a drift as a window and build it inside the drift without eating away at the length of the next drift. If we want to put a window in but we start with an optical (i.e. MADX) model, then we would have to preprocess it to take away some drift length for the window which, whilst not incredibly difficult, isn’t always trivial to automate.
