AMD Drivers Related Issue

Issue #1007 invalid
Manny Pearson created an issue

OS: Windows 10 64bit LaunchBox Version: 6.2

Hello. I'm the same guy who created that "LaunchBox Error: VLC Related Issue Causes Program to Crash on Startup" last week. I seem to have possibly found out what caused this issue.

Right before I reinstalled LaunchBox (before the issues started to rise up) I had installed some video drivers for the first time. The were AMD Catalyst drivers (version 16.something). I wasn't thinking about it, but when I look back at it, these drivers may have been the issue.

I only assume so because some of my game ended up having weird texture glitches (SW Battlefront 2 had all of the ground textures green, Splinter Cell wouldn't run at full resolution, etc.) After looking up the issue, it turns out that the Battlefront glitch was caused by AMD's video drivers.

I got to thinking, "If the AMD drivers caused issues with these games, is it possible that they could have caused those issues with LaunchBox as well?" After uninstalling the drivers and doing a factory reset of my computer, I tried to reinstall LaunchBox, and there were no issues. The .xml files were created like they were supposed to, I could finally use the VLC media player, and my games worked.

I'm not saying for a fact that there is a link between the AMD Catalyst drivers and my issues with LaunchBox, but it isn't a bad idea to look into it considering all of these issues were fixed after my drivers were uninstalled (or the factory reset fixed it).

If you happen to find a correlation, I would appreciate if you could find a way to warn people who might have the drivers installed if fixing it is too much trouble than it's worth.

Wow, you're probably right, Manny. I really appreciate the extra info here. This issue has been puzzling us for quite a while.

Hoping this was just a one-off, Manny. We haven't heard about it from anyone else so going to assume so.
