Database Lookup Issues (Found Cart Top Pic Without Finding Game In Database)

Issue #1105 invalid
Harry created an issue

When I imported my Genesis collection, a handful of games (about 10%) had files names just so slightly off that the database couldn't find the game.

What is weird is how for almost all of these, LaunchBox was still able to download the cart top correctly. (See left side of screen 1 pic).

Right side of screen 1 pic shows it was able to find the game after I manually edited the game's name.

I'm just wondering why it was able to find the cart top if it wasn't able to find it in the database. Also wondering LaunchBox didn't use this as a means to identify the game and download the rest of the metadata and images.

It could have potentially been downloaded by EmuMoies or if if you're re-importing games and had images left over it could have been found.

It was a fresh install with no assets. I'm certain it was downloaded from emumovies but I'm not sure why. Launchbox hadn't idientfied the game, that's why there was no DB ID in the left picture.

How would the program know to get the Cart Top from Emumovies if it didn't know what game it was?

Only thing I can think of is that LaunchBox DB and Emumovies uses two different methods to identify the game. Still doesn't explain why it only downloaded the Cart Top and not the rest of the images.

They do use different methods. We are using the EmuMovies API and it works based on name, they both do. That's why the names of the games need to be as close as possible to be able to be found on either Database. For EmuMovies scraping the game doesn't need to be attached to a LaunchBox Games Database ID or a Wikipedia ID. It is odd that only that was grabbed. At a certain point though there isn't much, if anything we can do to their API.

Can I go ahead and close this ticket then Harry?

Thanks Harry, I know this is weird but happens because EmuMovies and the LaunchBox Games Database both use completely different search algorithms.
