Automatic Emulator Download

Issue #1225 invalid

Hi,

I've installed Parallels on my Mac to create a Windows 10 VM for one purpose which is to try out Launchbox.

I've been using OpenEmu on my Mac for the last year and I really like it. It's really easy and comes with cores for most emulators right out of the box.

There are some limitations though and I'd really like to be able to use more emulators and have more functionality so I tried out HyperSpin but I find it to be complex.

Then I stumbled onto LaunchBox and it reminds me of OpenEmu but with a lot more functionality.

I got really excited when I watched your video and saw that LaunchBox could automatically download emulators. It didn't seem as nice in this area as OpenEmu which hides the cores within it's own folders rather than having you install a hundred separate emulator programs, but at least it downloads the emulator for you....

And that's why I'm writing, the automatic download of emulators isn't working. Is this just a temporary thing or have you removed this functionality.

Could you please work on matching the functionality of OpenEmu with Emulator Cores? No one wants to have 100 different programs installed. I would think that this alone would cause a mass migration of users over to your product. You also mention coming out with a Mac Version... you'll have to have Cores for the Mac no matter what cause we are used to that already.

I'm also fine with paying money for this functionality.

Can't wait to get to the next step! I'll hold off till I hear back so I can help you test this thing all the way through.

Warm Regards,

Rob Espinosa

Hi Rob, thanks for the feedback. I'm confused by what you mean exactly, though; LaunchBox does not currently automatically download emulators. It provides you with links as to where to download them, but there is no automatic download functionality.

I would love to be able to implement this (automatic emulator downloads and such), but there are just too many licensing and legality restrictions when it comes to the various emulators. I'd rather spend my time developing things instead of working out all those relationships with the emulator developers and any legal issues.

Thanks, though; I do appreciate it. I'm gonna go ahead and close out this ticket just because I don't think we can do the automatic emulator download thing.
